The Pampered Chef Cooking Show - in aid of Clic Sargent

This event was held at the Jubilee Family Centre on Friday 07^th October. There were over 50 guests who enjoyed the competitive spirit between two families, whose children have benefitted from the support provided by Clic Sargent, as they tried to outdo each other in their cooking abilities. There were also some amazing raffle prizes on offer: tickets for Legoland, Amazonia and Alton Towers to name just a few. After the cooking came the eating! We were able to sample the delights that were straight out of the oven, once they were cool enough to handle, along with teas and coffees.

The grand total raised for Clic Sargent was a fantastic £630.76 which will go towards helping to support other children suffering from Cancer.

We’re all going.... The Holiday Club for the 50s and over.

We went and had an amazing three days. This was the sixth year that we have held a Discovery Holiday Club at Jubilee Family Centre in Aylsham. We had sixty two people of fifty years and over, some of them friends from past years, some of them for the first time.

They played games like Croquet, Boules and Quoitsand flew kites, they had made, on the field next door to Jubilee Family Centre.Inside the building they painted flower pots, decorated buns, made greetingscards, painted pictures, made flower arrangements and even made coasters usinga Fret saw. Bingo was also very popular. As usual we had a thought for the dayon the days in the Jubilee Family Centre. This year we were looking at where weare all going to, in this life and beyond. Again a number of people decidedthat they wanted to follow Jesus and so changed their ultimate destination.

The holiday club outing was a great hit again this year. We went via The Highway Garden and Leisure Centre where we were very well served with coffee and cakes. Then on to Somerleyton Hall and Gardens near Lowestoft, where we were made very welcome, and had a tour of the hall followed by lunch. After a quick look at the beautiful gardens we had a cream tea then back to Aylsham, a very pleasant day out.

We have a monthly coffee morning called Discovery Coffee on the last Wednesday of each month, except August, from 10.00 to 12.00 at Jubilee Family Centre. It’s a time for getting together and chatting, playing games and having coffee and cakes. This is open to anyone who is fifty years and over. Jubilee Tots at the Aylsham Carnival

With the Aylsham Carnival fast approaching, Jubilee Tots decided to throw caution to the wind and celebrate this annual community event by joining in the procession. Our interpretation of this year’s theme "Merry England" was old fashioned nursery rhymes - particularly relevant to our client group - we thought.
So if you were in Aylsham on the afternoon of Sunday 3^rd July you may have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of; a king, a queen, a blackbird or two, a farmer, a cat with its fiddle and even a fellow in his nightshirt (to name just a few characters), parading through the streets of Aylsham towards the "Rec".

The streets were lined with encouraging onlookers, much to the children’s delight, and the sun shone. It was a fantastic day, improved only slightly by Jubilee Tots being judged overall winners. (Who am I kidding, we were overjoyed!).

It was a great effort from the Tots members and the team and well worth it to be part of such a strong sense of community.... anyone fancy a go next year?

Amazonia at the Jubilee Family Centre

One Thursday in June, the JFC was transformed into a den of noise and excitement. The hall was buzzing with anticipation… Amazonia was in the building. A vast number of volunteers had turned out to help at the last FATJs: one to be remembered. Families began to arrive in and the anticipation mounted. Children were engrossed in the various activities that were on offer from making spiders out of wool, decorating cakes with spiders and other creepy crawlies to face paints and nail decorating. But the real excitement was the reptiles.

Anyone who wanted to have a go was able to hold a bearded dragon, baby tortoise and various snakes. But the main attraction this year was a baby alligator. Children, young and old, squealed as they held and stroked the different reptiles. Many grown ups took the chance to ‘have a go’. There were many golden moments as children were given the opportunity to hold creatures that were just so amazing and which they wouldn’t normally have the chance to see let alone hold.

The last FATJs was a truly wonderful event. Lots of laughter and fun lots of happy families gathering together to enjoy time out with each other. A HUGE thanks go to the army of volunteers without whom FATJs would not be possible.

One child put it this way:

“FAT J’s was AMAZING!! I loved being able to chill, talk and play with all my mates. I especially enjoyed being able to hold the animals! I just wish that wasn’t the last one because I loved going to FAT J’s because it was so fun!”

BBC Radio 4 ‘Any Questions’ in Aylsham

On Friday 25^th February the Aylsham Rotary Club hosted the BBC Radio 4 programme ‘Any Questions?’ here at the Jubilee Family Centre.

The panel, chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby, included Andrew Lansley MP, Secretary of State for Health; Margaret Hodge MP, Chair of the Commons Public Accounts Committee; Phillip Blond, founder and director of the public policy think tank ResPublica; and Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and formerly Labour's Director of Policy and a member of the Labour Party's election strategy team for the 1997 election.

Over 300 people came to hear the lively debate with questions ranging from defence cuts to NHS reforms. The evening began with warm up questions where Mr Lansley revealed that he used to visit his girlfriend in Aylsham whilst at university! The evening ended on a lighter note with the panellists being asked what they would buy as a wedding present for Prince William and Kate Middleton. Answers included baby clothes and an extremely good spin doctor! A good and enjoyable evening was had by all.

Do you want to be 'Spirit Empowered' ?

Following a week of prayer, on Sunday we kicked off our new preaching series about the ‘Spirit Empowered Church’.

Over the next few months we will go on a journey through the book of Acts, looking at what it means to be a ‘Spirit Empowered’ People and a 'Spirit Empowered' Church.

Jesus left the emerging church with an amazing promise, 'And you will receive power.' The rest of Acts is a breathtaking account of the release of this power through those who dared to believe His promise. However, this promise was not just to kick start the infant church, but a statement of intent for His glorious church throughout the ages.

Come with us on an adventure that will change our lives and our church as we explore this promise and the prophetic impact it will have on us as a church if we dare to believe - His Spirit empowering us today - 'We WILL receive Power, there is no 'might receive' about it!'

IN SEARCH FOR A STAR

It was panto time again. oh yes it was, here at the Jubilee Family Centre on Sunday 12th December! Another amazing production of the Nativity performed by members of Aylsham Community Church and played to 2 packed audiences. This year it was the turn of the 3 Kings with their desperate attempt to find a 4th member for their band. On hearing about a new star in Bethlehem they went on a long journey to find the new star. On the journey they stopped by at their managers house (Herod) to tell him what they were doing. Also on their journey they came across some old favourites, Snow White, some dwarfs, Aladdin, and of course the Dame herself, Widow Twanky! Their search for a 4th member for their band didn't turn out quite as they imagined. A lot of the usual panto silliness mixed with some great singing and of course with the most important message being that the search for the star was in fact the finding of THE STAR, Jesus.

Thank you to all who came and supported our 2 productions. We hope you enjoyed your time with us. From everyone at Aylsham Community Church, we hope you have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas Events @ Aylsham Community Church

'The 3 Kingz' Panto
Sunday 12th December will see the third Aylsham Community Church Christmas Family Panto. Continuing the story from the past two years, this year boyband 'The 3 Kingz' are searching for a fourth band member and they've heard a star has appeared in Bethlehem. Will they find the star they are looking for? Will panto favourites Aladdin and Widow Twanky be able to help The 3 Kingz in their quest? Only one way to find out - book your tickets now for you, your family and friends and join the The 3 Kings as they Search for a Star!

There will be two performances at 10.30am and 3.30pm at the Jubilee Family Centre. Tickets are FREE, but need to be booked and refreshments are included.

Carol Service

On Sunday 19th December, Aylsham Community Church will be having a traditional carol service for the all the family. Mince pies & mulled wine (& soft drinks) included!

Christmas Day Service
At 10.30am, Aylsham Community Church will be holding a family service to celebrate Christmas day!. There will be no service the following day on the 26th December.

No morning meeting on the 24th October - why not?

Next Sunday on the 24th October there will be no morning meeting at Aylsham Community Church.....so why not?

Well, instead the majority of the Church's congregation will be meeting with over 1,000 other people from Churches across the region and Europe at the Together at the East of England conference.

Now in its 3rd year and held at Pontins Holiday Centre in Pakefield, Suffolk, the conference provides an excellent opportunity to build relationship with one another and benefit from excellent teaching, this year from Edward Buria (Kambakia Christian Centre, Kenya) and Mike Betts (Lowestoft Community Church).

So instead of joining us in Aylsham, why not come across to the conference as a day visitor (or stay over the weekend - tickets are still available). If you can't make it, please come and see us at Aylsham Community Church on the 31st October!

Colossians...Jesus Christ is sufficient to meet all our needs.

The Book of Colossians is a mini-ethics course, addressing every area of Christian life, progressing from the individual life to the home and family, from work to the way we should treat others. The theme of this book is the sufficiency of our Lord, Jesus Christ, in meeting our needs in every area.

On 8 Sunday mornings throughout the autumn and winter period, Aylsham Community Church will be working its way through the book of Colossians, demonstrating how Jesus Christ is sufficient in meeting our needs. Themes for each Sunday are shown below:

5 September: Introduction and prayer

12 September: The Pre-eminent Christ

19 September: Our Freedom in Christ

17 October: Our new life in Christ

21 November: Holy Living – Home and family

Meanwhile, back at the farm.........

It is not every day that you see a Fordson Standard N Tractor being driven into Jubilee Family Centre but on Monday 26^th July that is exactly what happened.

The reason for this strange event was our annual holiday club, this is for those of fifty years and over and this years’ theme was “Meanwhile back at the farm....” so it was totally appropriate to have the tractor in our building. We also had a plough, milk churns and various tools from the farming trade. The first day of the club started off with a crafts morning with people having the opportunity to try their hand at such things as making jig saws, painting, flower arranging, button craft, and even making and flying a kite. After a hearty lunch we had a lady from Essex reciting poetry that she had written, this was followed by tea and a film.

The second day, Wednesday 28^th July, we had our outing. This year we travelled to Wymondham and had coffee at the Brief Encounter Restaurant on Wymondham Station, we then boarded the Mid-Norfolk Railway train to Dereham, a delightful ride through beautiful countryside. The coach took us to The Gressenhall Rural Life Museum where we had an excellent lunch and a very memorable afternoon; we had rides on a cart pulled by two magnificent Suffolk Punch horses and saw a lovely Red Poll calf, born two days earlier. The workhouse was very thought provoking, thinking about the number of people that had lived, worked and died in conditions that, to us, who live in this day seem so far removed from anything that we have experienced

Our final day began with a games morning and after lunch we had The Women Drummers for Peace to entertain us, a number of people enjoying the opportunity to try their hands at drumming and not making a bad job of it! We finished off the afternoon with a good old sing along. We ended the week with Tea at Jubilee on Sunday afternoon, an opportunity to talk about the experiences over the week, to have a look at the photos that we had taken and enjoy tea and cakes together.

The theme of Meanwhile back at the farm gave us the opening to look at sowing and reaping and what happens to the seed that is sown, some is lost on hard ground or chocked by weeds but some , that is sown on good fertile soil will produce a crop 100 or 60 or 30 times what was sown. We hope that the seed of the Gospel sown over the week will produce a good crop.

Do you recognise anyone in this photo? It is a very old photo as you can see, so you may have to look at old family members or perhaps photos of old family members! These men were the founders of Aylsham Tabernacle which then became Aylsham Tab Community Church during the 1980’s and then eventually, as it is known today, Aylsham Community Church. We were given this photo very recently and it would be great to put names to as many faces as possible. A New Front Door for ACC and JFC

Welcome, at long last, to our new Aylsham Community Church and Jubilee Family Centre websites!

Today, the internet is the first point of contact for most people searching for a church or for any information about God and the Christian faith. Many people, before visiting a church on a Sunday morning, will first peer through the front door of the church website.

So, we're delighted to launch our new church website, www.aylshamcommunitychurch.org. On this page you will find four options: one button to go to the website for Aylsham Community Church, one for people visiting for the first time, one to go to this Blog, and one to go to the Jubilee Family Centre website.

Please go and give the website a test drive - we would welcome any helpful comments and observations, especially if you spot a glitch. This website is the first phase of our site, and in the months to come we hope to improve and refine the site, and add more content.

The primary purpose of the website is to be useful and attractive for people exploring about ACC and JFC. In time, we intend to develop a section of the ACC site that is especially for church members, containing information that is useful for members but less interesting for visitors!

Please use these websites as tools for reaching your own friends and family, neighbours and workmates. It's a great tool for you to use to help people looking for a church to find out a lot of interesting information about ACC. Also, for people who perhaps are not looking for a church but are looking for some help or advice, then the JFC website is bursting with resources and information.

Meanwhile Back at the Farm! - Tuesday 27th-Thursday 29th July 2010

Over the past four years the Discovery Holiday Club at Jubilee Family Centre, Aylsham has gained something of a reputation for giving our over- 60 folk a good few days. One question though has arisen every year: why can’t the 50- somethings come as well?

So this year we have decided to open the doors to anyone aged 50 or over. We do understand that this might cause something of a stampede with people rushing to Jubilee Family Centre to grab a ticket so we will ensure that there are a number of marshals on duty to maintain law and order! The theme for this year’s club is "Meanwhile back at the Farm". Which will bring us back to earth following globetrotting, even universe trotting as we sought to reach the Moon last year!

Needless to say, there will be a full day’s outing as well as two days of crafts, games and entertainment at Jubilee Family Centre. The cost this year has been increased slightly due to our increased costs and the cost of the outing, which I am sure that you will enjoy. The cost will be £18 per person, this will cover teas/coffees lunches /craft materials and of course, the outing, a full day departing Jubilee Family Centre at 10.00am and returning at approximately 6.00pm.

There will be an added bonus this year. If you were part of The Land Army during the war and you are in possession of your medal, bring the medal along and we will have a little gift for you.

We are expecting a large number of people to join us this year so I urge you to book as soon as possible. Call on 01263 733332 or drop in to Jubilee Family Centre, Norwich Road, Aylsham.
